Artist Statement
A photograph captures a slice of truth.
Often when I feel compelled to make a photograph, I have no idea why - why this place,
why this view, why this exact moment.
Yet later when I see the product of my efforts, either in the darkroom or on the
monitor, the essential truth behind those questions emerges in a flash.
To me, this shock of enlightenment is a powerful Zen moment.
Without meaning to offend anyone who practices their faith in other ways, the work you
see here is an expression of my personal Zen.
Like the haikhu which accompany the images, I find each photograph both mysterious and
illuminating.
My hope is that, for you as well, these prints will crystallize the fleeting truth
of inspiration.
